True love warms cold day
Last week my wife and I had the wonderful opportunity to travel to Scott City, Kansas, for an engagement session with Brianna and Tristen. With extremely cold weather and snow in the forecast, we knew it was going to be a challenge. It may have been cold outside, but their hearts were warm and it turned out to be an amazing day!
We arrived a day early to scout out a few locations and met with the young couple the morning of the shoot. That morning, of course, greeted us with the cold (-3 when you factored in the wind chill), icy lakes, and snow flurries.
The weather could have very easily dampened the day, but Brianna and Tristen were so upbeat that the day quickly became one that will be forever etched into their happy memories, and ours. Looking back 5, 10, 50 years from now, they will have a story to tell about their engagement shoot, the -3 degree weather and the snow that fell that day. Besides, it was a great excuse to snuggle a little closer and made for some really cute photos.
In between the shots and locations, we all huddled inside our cars with the heat turned to max. Keeping warm was primarily for safety, but also so they didn't end up with rosy red noses or faces in their photos.
The session was also a great opportunity to get to know them a bit better before their big day and learn what was most important to them. My wife had previously met Brianna during a church service project in Colorado where she was the camp counselor to my daughter and my wife’s youth group. This engagement shoot gave me the chance to get to know her myself, and to get to know Tristen.
You wouldn’t know by looking at the photos how cold it was that day, which really is a credit to the love of these two. Part of knowing true love is how you fair in adversity and the love of these two truly warmed that bitter cold day.
I can’t wait until their June wedding! –at least we should have much warmer weather.
